Thanks Kelley. I always appreciate your 'thoughtful-ness' (not only consideration but your willingness to think about things). I have great regard for your skill, intelligence and the respect you accord your clients and the rest of us. Susan

Hi Antoine What a great metaphor. Thanks for sharing it. Isn't it amazing what can happen when we respect and sync up the clients needs and perspective and give him a little room to grow. It sounds like you are a great therapist. Plus, you have on…

I believe I like this thought: there's a difference between pushing and shoving. I can push, with the best of them, especially if I am pushing with the client...but shoving seems counter-productive.

A good question was raised: when is it appropriate and productive to "speak up" and when are we better served by dodging??

I look forward to everyone's input, even if they are wrong in my never-so-humble opinion. That's a joke, by the way. The question is a really good one. A bit arrogantly and prematurely I suggested that "speaking up" is intrinsically good and an attempt to do so is always the wisest course. I have to back off my position and open myself back up to other ideas.

BULLSHIT. Is it? Or is it not? (a lengthy commentary)

WARNING: THIS IS LONG. In this commentary there are three separate ideas I put forth all based on the original discussion about BULLSHIT. I hope that there is something that gives everyone who reads it all pause to reflect.

I. First topic: is it helpful to our clients to be confrontational and harsh?

A few days ago I found myself to be caught up in a resurrected discussion from awhile back. I'm always happy to discover myself to be consistent. I fel

Hi All...a small favor, please?

I'm finally past the stupid technical stuff and most of my corporate battles (Verizon, ATT, insurance companies, car dealerships and the newly-ravaging Los Angeles Police Department who have been told to make up the budget deficit by writing bad tickets and leading them into default along with the Court system).Continue

I should say work on myself... I'm not a therapist. I'm a writer.

Thank you for the warm words on the other post. I'm in a vulnerable place at the moment. I should not have allowed one person's words to have so much control over me.

I'm only learning. I've been working with a therapist who does a kind of hypnotherapy for reparenting to overcome PTSD and DID. She has been teaching me some self-hypnosis techniques and recently this has become a big part of my work. I thought I might gain some more insights on what is possible here at this site.

Hey Susan, and...

I'm glad I'm glad I'm here too. And I do love common sense as well: sure beats the two cents I'm sometimes offered. :)

Hi Susan,

I don't want to add to the BS by throwing in my $0.02, but if I did, it would be to support what you're saying. Thanks for saying it!

Hi susan
I love reading your contributions to all the various discussions - I'm still something of a newbie and feel so lucky to be surrounded by such knowledgeable people.

I noted on one post you offering to share a deep breathing/insomnia script and would love it if you could email me a copy as well if that offer you made still holds. samantha@vanillaskieshypnotherapy.com

Many thanks in advance Sam x

Hi Susan,

Will enjoy meeting and talking with you, even at a distance.

In addition to the broken rib, I've been snowbound most of the week. Hence the "flurry" of activity on Hypnothoughts!

I've just been reading “the dove" and maybe I'm obtuse but the lines of argument all seem very confused-sprinkled with impressive levels of self righteousness. As far as I can make out people are talking about 'claimed sensitivity as weapon' and whether we choose to be hurt or not. Am I right?

All the very best

Sadly to a point you are right Richard. You can be a so-so un-entertaining stage hypnotist and draw people. However although that's great in a tourist town say like Vegas where it will be 12 months or more before people return, in a more home town s…
