I share some of the same sentiments as fable. First, I wanna ask why this is even posted on a hypnosis board? You make references to events and mix in hypnotic language where it seems to fabricate your truth. You speak of your unconscious yet how…

UPDATE: Over the last few years, I have continued to take extra courses. I get most of my clients from my website as well as referrals. I also now write a column in my local paper each week, offering tips about hypnosis as well as answering questions that I am asked about hypnosis. I don't advertise on it, but technically, it's still advertisement. The column name just happens to be my website name as well. So, that has really gotten my name out locally. I am contemplating dropping my ad in the phone books, although it's just a listing, even that is extreme expensive and phone books are rarely used anymore. Everyone's moving to the android phones, so I am contemplating taking out my listing in the phone book.
The advanced courses do teach many things. Not just arm raising.
I am glad I could help you with the loan issue. As far as what I do personally?
I am still in the process of building my private business. I just lost my office space, due to giving it up for my daughter to move into with her fiancé and soon to be baby. That took a hard hit.... I am looking for office space to share with others, but for the meantime I have a home office. It has a separate entrance, so I can keep it professional. I have had many compliments from my clients. I listed myself in three phone books and have business cards with me. Most my clients also ask for cards, so they hand them out for me. I am now at least past the beginning stages to where I am totally confident in my ability. That one took time. I couldn't have done it with out the advanced courses. That is what it basically amounts to. I know others do have great programs out there too. I can only speak for what worked for me.
Blessings~
Call Sallie Mae, ask for a personal loan for education. HMI is on the list for approved accredited schools. Once they see that, they will help you with getting approved, even if you need a co-signer. That is how I did it. Blessings~
http://www.hypnosis.edu/streaming/#nocharge is the link to the page with the E&P and Mental Bank. Do the Mental Bank! It's better if you buy the book and workbook, but even without is a giant, giant help! And - you can teach that to the public.
I'm happy to hear you are keeping busy! lol The more you do, the more that will happen. Join your local Chamber of Commerce. Let other service groups- Elks, Kiwanis, whatever, know you are available to give short presentations on the power of hypnosis and/or the subconscious mind. Have Smoking cessation brochures and Business cards (very inexpensive from vistaprint.com). Try to find a way to use your Smoking Cessation class - advertise you specialize in stop smoking in Craigslist. Teach adult ongoing education classes at your nearby, local community colleges - like self-hypnosis for stress reduction, a class using hypnosis for people uncomfortable in public speaking (just use both E+P suggestions and metaphors), etc. (Those classes don't bring you in a lot of money unless you get quite a few people. So have plenty of business cards to give out. You get your name and skill out in public that way.) You do know that the Mental Bank and E+P classes are available free as streaming videos on the site, right? Watch the free E+P video and buy the book. Learn it! Then you can give classes/seminars on relationship enhancement or the "real" differences between people. I think I mentioned volunteering your hypnosis for stress reduction and calming people at a hospital or senior center or wherever.
How many people have joined your meetup group since it's birth? Advertise you started that on Craigslist too. Regardless of your activities, always look and act professional. Continue your education- a lot is on hypnothoughts and check out http://www.british-hypnosis-research.com/ = Free One Year Online Training Course in Indirect Ericksonian Hypnosis & NLP. (I'm enrolled here as are others from here.) Take every $29 class that HMI/AHA has to offer - especially the certificate and business courses.
Are you going to get the Dr Kappas series? You should- so much excellent info there. Record them on CDs or DVDs! I could go on and on, but you more than have the idea already.
About your craigslist ad- have several prepared, not just one. If you don't get the results you want, try something else until you do.
Keep me posted on your progress. I'll always be happy to help.
Hi- Rather than answer your discussion there, I decided to do it here. I attended HMI and graduated from there all by the distance program. I live near San Diego so am able to drive up to LA to attend AHA classes, but I completed my advanced training online. I was fortunate that we have a local practice group of other students, too. I realize a lot of people frown on distance training, but HMI's is excellent and they have different ways to pay monthly, etc. However, you do need to practice your inductions - on family, friends, preferably on other students, but whatever works.
Take John Melton's completely self-contained Smoking 101 (AHA cessation class) and you can be a specialist in smoking cessation. You'll be able to pay for any training. Join AHA to listen to the clinical case presentations and get the insurance if you decide to work on smoking cessation or habit control of any kind for pay. As a certified hypnotist, you are able to work on avocational, vocational and self-improvement only issues. Self-confidence - public speaking - etc.
Placing Craigslist ads are great to get people for practicing your inductions. You'll get plenty of experience offering free hypnosis!
