Last night was my 3rd paid show.
There were obstacles to overcome:
I had already delayed the show by a week because the owner of the bar hadn´t promoted the gig. I gave him NICE quality posters that I designed and had printed out, but when I arrived last night I saw almost no evidence of advertising, promotion or anything remotely similar - He has a whiteboard with a little space at the bottom where he had written "Hypnosis" and the scheduled start time.
I had a whopping…

So I had my 2nd and 3rd bookings for stage hypnosis lined up for this week - tomorrow and sunday being the agreed dates with the different customers.
As fate would have it I was reading a thread on hypnothoughts thismorning regarding how to handle cancellations in a hypnotherapy practice. Literally 15 minutes later my phone rang and it was the sunday gig calling to cancel. The bar manager said that the company dinner group that was going to be paying for the gig were refusing…

I know a fellow hypnotist who I´ll call "A". He has tried to be hypnotized several times before and has had very limited success. Professionals have tried with him, including my mentor. After twice having an hour long session with my mentor he had a foot stuck to the ground. 2 weeks ago "A" asked me to hypnotize him. I did a few pretests and then used the Elman induction. I was too ambitious and went straight for a name change (told him when he opened his eyes his name would be Rosemary). He…

At the weekend I was out at two different places. On friday night I was at "Nuba" and on saturday night I was in an area called "Sevilla Este" (east seville).
Neither night went as planned, but here´s what happened:
Friday:
I had a group of friends organized to meet up for dinner and drinks. Dinner was delayed by people arriving late, then my invited group of volunteers dwindled (one couple had to leave because they had brought young…

Thanks for friending me.

Even seasoned stage hypnotists hate walking into a room "cold," where no one expects them. And especially when you're new, you should give yourself every advantage--stack the deck!
Consider getting a big banner you can hang up behind the stage. It will make you look like a professional who does this all the time.
If you're the only act on the night you're there, consider making your handbills say "FREE TICKET" on them. No one has to know that you're not charging for the show (unless of course there is a charge).
I use these techniques even for my comedy music shows. I tell people, "This is a front-row pass. With this, you and your friends are allowed to sit in the front row--as long as there is still room in the front row." Or I'll say, "Get there early to get a seat. I didn't say to get a good seat; you have to be there early to get a seat at all!" As a result, everyone gets there early, and my prediction comes true. People who walk up right at show time think, "Holy Crap! This guy must be great!"
I should mention that when I did that walkabout in the small town, one of the people I did a little street hypnosis for was so excited that he made a point of coming back to town for my show. He then volunteered and became my best trancer. I had about a month of expectancy in my favor!
If you're in a resort town, see if the local hotels and restaurants will let you put up flyers or put handbills on their counter.
Best of luck,
James

Thanks for the welcome(s) guys. I´ve hypnotized several people before but have had a hard time finding volunteers - my main interest is in Entertainment Hypnosis (at the moment).
Tonight I have my first gig! up to 200 people expected - wish me luck!
