Pleasant Grove and Pratt City, Al. tornado

As many of you know I just relocated away from Alabama in Jan. of this year.  For 18 yrs I lived in the surburb of Pleasant Grove, Al outside of Birmingham, Al  It is the one that was hit by the tornado earlier this week.  My sister still lives there and was thankfully unhurt.  Her street was one of 2 in the community that was spared from total destruction.  There is no power and will not be for weeks to months since the substation was blown away also.  Most of the cell phone towers are gone…

Hidden Observer in the Dental Chair

Today, I used "The Hidden Observer" today while having oral surgery. There was an area where the local was not working so I went deeper into hypnosis and just "observed" the suturing. Worked like a charm !!

The phenomenon I refer to can be found in:
Hilgard, Ernest R. and Josephine R. Hilgard. Hypnosis in the Relief of Pain. Los Altos, CA: W. Kaufmann, 1983

Botox and Empathy

I saw this on the news last week.  Much of our ability to empathize with another's emotions lies in our ability to mimic their expressions.  Paralyzing facial muscles has to varying degrees reduced the ability to connect emotionally to other people.

Wieso Book of Ra so toll ist.

Weil es echte Novoline Automaten sind, auf denen Book of Ra läuft. Bei Stargames kann man es ja auch schon spielen.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!  Why?  Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution,…

Alzheimers

My mother-in-law died of Alzheimers about 6 years ago.  My wife and I were the "back-up" care-givers,  while my sister-in-law went through hell and earned a place among the angels.

On facebook tonight,  a fellow hypnotherapist asked if hypnosis can assist in cases of this disease.  (He is the primary care-giver.)  All I could think of was to send sympathy and to ask if he had joined Hypnothoughts.   My wife suggested that the person needing hypnosis was him -- to help his endurance and… Continue

A Gift

I received a surprise this weekend from one lovely and talented hypnotist: Jackie Spencer. Amid the box of wonderful prizes was one amazing item: a Buddha Board.

The Buddha Board is a tablet on which you paint with water. Eventually, the images fade, leaving a clean slate. I like its reminders of the temporary condition of life and to live in the moment.

I can't decide if I will keep it at home or take…

And the Buddha says...

Once Buddha was travelling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake."

The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?"

So he came back and told Buddha, "The…

Forensic Application of Hypnosis

The United States Supreme Court ruled that hypnotically refreshed recall is admissible in all 50 states when used by the defense with their client.  See Rock vs. Arkansas for the Supreme Court decision.  Hypnotically refreshed recall is admissible in some states when used by the police.  Hypnotically refreshed recall is admissible in Texas courts when the guide lines as set forth in Zani vs. Texas are followed.  In 1988 Legislation was passed in Texas, establishing mandatory training, testing… Continue

People who are "hard to hypnotize" ?

I know a fellow hypnotist who I´ll call "A". He has tried to be hypnotized several times before and has had very limited success. Professionals have tried with him, including my mentor. After twice having an hour long session with my mentor he had a foot stuck to the ground. 2 weeks ago "A" asked me to hypnotize him. I did a few pretests and then used the Elman induction. I was too ambitious and went straight for a name change (told him when he opened his eyes his name would be Rosemary). He…

Glad I use headphones....

The office next to mine is being leased....  and so a construction crew is in doing remodeling, complete with sledge hammers and removing a wall.   I have a client in a few minutes.....   Today I am glad I use headphones and music in almost all of my hypnotherapy sessions....

Could I do hypnosis with all this noise, sure.   But headphones are so much easier....

M.E. (No, not me, M.E.)

Not a blog as such for which I apologise but I wanted to appeal to the combined wisdom of all who share this community.

I have a friend who has M.E. This the second time she has had it, This time it came on after a operation for a small tumour found on her neck.

While I know there is no cure as such, does anyone here have any experience of M.E., know of any good books or websites I might read or visit or have any ideas at all (however wacky) that might allow…
