Touche'- hah!

All I can say is that if I'd had an idea beforehand of HOW much work it would entail, I would have thrown my typewriter in a lake (yep, typewriter- no personal computers around when I started!). It ultimately took me almost thirteen years to research and write the bloody thing (and I write fast); and if you can read PDF files, the entire 38 page bibliography is actually posted on my website.
I believe there are something like 550 ancient and modern references (in English, French, German and Dutch) listed, but I ONLY included those sources from which I either quoted directly or paraphrased. The "total" number of books and articles I researched is far north of 1,000.
Chalk it up to my overly "fanatical" personality (some might even call it "obsessive-compulsive"...; - )

I actually have enough material stashed away for a planned second volume, but there's no WAY I can go through all THAT hassle again (I recently turned 60, and am enjoying retirement too much to go back to working on a book 60 hours a week).

Anyway, thank you kindly for the "attaboy!"

Aw, thanks, Saul. But one bow is enough--I wouldn't want you to think I was using storytelling for entertainment, when it's best used for therapy. :-)

In all seriousness, I am really impressed by the sheer volume of research that went into your book.

James,

Ditto- you took the words right out of my mouth...; - )

P.S. take ANOTHER bow for that "Aaa-rik-zonn" post, it was freakin' brilliant!

*takes a bow*

Y'know, Saul, for someone I have disagreed with so vehemently, you're really pretty cool. ;-)

As I understand it, one of the Star Trek plots that ended up on the cutting room floor reveals that the Neck Pinch and Mind Meld are actually Romulan techniques that serious Vulcan healers frowned upon and did their best to ban. Spock was a half-human throwback. In their shadowy past, Vulcans had used those methods, but a wise leader named Aaa-rik-zonn taught them to be more respectful and permissive. :-)

Excellent point James!
Spock IS "so showy" (and frighteningly authoritarian) with his techniques, and he therefore most probably DOES "give all Vulcans a bad name".
As a matter of fact, his signature "Vulcan Mind-Meld" technique looks UNCANNILY like the induction featured in Michael Ellner's recent thread "Talking Point: Instant Inductions and Modern Hypnotic Practice- Gil Boyne in Budapest".

I kid you not- check it out..!!

Thanx for starting my morning with a laugh.

Yeah, but Spock is so showy with his techniques. Don't you think he gives all Vulcans a bad name? :-)

Sounds great- except that it wouldn't work for me at all because I don't have to feel the least bit hungry to crave dessert, and I wouldn't stop eating dessert just because I felt "full" (if ONLY!).
I'd stop eating real "food" if I felt full, but not dessert; and I doubt if anything short of a Vulcan "Mind-Meld" intervention would be powerful enough to compel me otherwise...
