With the current economy and the holidays upon us, I hear hypnotists talking about, "the slow season" or the dead time before new years resolutions and wonder, "what are they talking about?" Some are even talking about lowering their rates just to stay busy. That just doesn't make sense to me at all.

Last December was my busiest month of the entire year. This one isn't quite as packed as last year, but I'm seeing 16 clients this week (3 had to reschedule to next week due to flu or family conflict or it would have been 19). I'm not writing to boast, but instead to encourage you all to get out there and get more clients today.

If you want to use this time of year to relax, vacation, or spend time with family that is great, but if you are looking to expand your business there are great ways to do it now. How? In a word: Utilization.

Offer to give a free 45 minute lecture on "Managing the holiday Stress" or "de-stressing the holidays" or something like that. Emphasize that you can help people let go of the stress and enjoy this time of year. Pace their reality and lead them to a happier state of mind. Tell the people there that you will do a private one hour session with them for this or anything they want, or even offer a group rate to work with multiple people on this issue.
You could even put out a press release talking about these things, getting a head start on new years resolutions, curbing holiday binge eating and weight gain, or giving a loved one the gift of a hypnosis session.

I hope these ideas get you thinking and get you motivated to get out there and have some fun with your practice. Go make the phone ring and turn strangers into clients.

Have fun,
Scott Sandland

I"m with Scott and Roger on this issue. Not only am I getting new clients in each week (remember, I don't advertise) I've got companies and community groups calling already to book New Year's Resolution group sessions for Jan.-March. And, one of the local TV stations already wants to schedule an interview on New Year's Resolutions to air in Jan. This has traditionally been a slower time for me but not since the recession started. The recession has actually made my phone ring more. Be visible. Talk to anyone who will listen about the benefits of hypnosis.

I seem to have a hard time getting started, ran a photo display ad 'if you want to stop smoking' ad and drew 0 inquiries!

Thanks Scott! I'm a bit slower this year than last - that means on 30 clients this week. I am seeing fewer weight loss clients it seems because of the economy - but there is a significant increase in folks coming in due to stress & anxiety. And, I am increasing my rates January 1.

Scott is quite correct on his points here, and I too have had two of the best months ever right at the peak of all the negative financial news. (Keep in mind, I'm not a hypnotist, I am a Direct Response Marketing Copywriter & Strategist)

Resist jumping on the price slashing bandwagon. There are many other ways to get clients and increase your business. (See my blog for ideas HypnosisMarketingTips.com)

NEVER lower your prices to get more business. Once you do, you start down a slippery slope. People will price shop instead of evaluating VALUE.

Instead, add more to your offer. Make it irresistible! Like Marlon Brando in the Godfather, make them an offer they can't refuse.

PILE IT ON!

Have you ever been watching late night TV and a commercial comes on for something your really don't need or even want... but as it goes on they sweeten the offer with a bonus... then they add another bonus... they keep piling it on and at some point you start to think "wow, this is a really good deal."

That is what an irresistible offer is all about. You can use this idea in your marketing and the really good news is, you can do it with little extra cost.

SHORT TIME PROMOTIONS

Instead of lowering prices, offer limited time promotions, such as "bring a friend free".

Variations of the buy-one-get-one-free offer have been very successful across many industries.

The secret to making this work is:

1. Have something else to offer them after the first offer

2. Have a referral system in place to encourage both of them to refer.

ENTER THE CONVERSATION ALREADY IN THEIR MIND

What Scott called "pace their reality" is known to Copywriters as "Entering the conversation already in their mind". This is a secret to very successful advertising.

Example: If you put one of the generic business card ads in the paper with the headline "HYPNOSIS WORKS" you will only attract people who are looking for hypnosis or maybe curious about hypnosis.

If you put an ad in the paper that said "HOLIDAY STRESS RELIEF" or "ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY STREE-FREE" or simply "STRESSED???" You will instantly get the attention of people who are feeling stressed.

This is the same mechanism that works when you buy a new car and suddenly notice the same model car on the road everywhere you drive. It's your subconscious doing what it does best.

This same effect, also known as Reticular Activation works in your marketing and will attract clients in need of de-stressing during the holidays.

TALKING FOR DOLLARS

Speaking is a great way to get new clients, and as a hypnotist you have a great topic and can make your talk exciting by actually doing demonstrations.

But, where many hypnotists make mistakes is by not getting contact info from people who attend and doing follow up. If you do all that work to get in front of an audience, prepare your presentation, and do the promotion... why on earth wouldn't you make the effort to maximize your revenue?

Not following up is one of the most critical mistakes made in business. And just to let you know, it is a chronic problem with ALL businesses big and small.

Here's the thing... if people carve time out of their hectic schedules to come here a talk about hypnosis... they are INTERESTED and WANT more information. If your topic is specific such as stress relief or weight management during the holidays, they most likely want help.

You are doing them a dis-service by not obliging them with more information on how you can help them improve their quality of life. And you are shooting yourself in the foot by losing business.

HOW TO GET FREE PUBLICITY

I have a lot of material on my blog on how you can get free publicity, news stories, and use press releases on my blog.

There is a teleseminar I did with Elsom Eldridge on this topic, instructions on how to write a press release, and even a free press release template.

You can find these things and more here:

USE WORLD HYPNOTISM DAY

This is a great time to get free publicity and new clients. I personally know hypnotists who have made over $10,000 from their WHD event.

Anyone can do it, but you need to start soon as it's on January 4th.

Cheers,
