I've found myself in an interesting place over the past few months, professionally speaking.  Simply put, I have too many great opportunities and I can't do all of them as much as I'd like.  Those of you who know me understand this isn't me boasting, but instead fishing for insights from peers and mentors who've been in this situation.

I'm enjoying seeing my clients in my private practice and like the variety offered by the few places where I'm on staff seeing patients/clients for different issues (drug addiction, dental pain, anxiety, etc.).  I've also found more opportunities to teach more and develop more resources for this website and its members.  Both this site and my practice took years of work to build, and both deserve my respect and attention, but how much?

There is that part of me that is excited by the sense of adventure of "something new," and teaching more classes and building more projects definitely fits that bill.  At the same time, I get great satisfaction out of working with my clients.  It's emotionally and financially rewarding to continue focusing on my private practice, but curiosity is pulling me towards some of these new ventures.

I'm playing around with the balance, and have decided to reduce my private practice down to 4 days a week for a few months and to spend one day a week working on some of these outside projects.  This is a wonderful "problem" to have, and it's a great way to start a new year.

Stick around and you won't be able to help but notice how this plays out..

Once you identify your purpose, it's obvious when opportunities lie in a different direction. So saying yes and no is quite easy. While everyone thinks of the consequences of saying no, saying yes has consequences as well.

Hmmm.

Seems like a 'three pipe problem... Pass me my stardivarious watson!"

Scott, having had the experience of working with some clients who are at the top of their game in their respective fields, sometimes it comes down to setting priorities and sometimes it means delegation. Perhaps your career is getting too big to be a one man operation anymore? Good luck! Jim

"...this website ... my practice...teaching more classes...building more projects....There is that part of me that...fits that bill." Sounds like you could benefit from a "parts therapy" session. Perhaps a deeper internal search is in order. This internal conflict can be readily dissolved with hypnosis. Get to the core of your inner excitement.

I can relate to this one strongly, Scott and yes- it's a fun "problem" to have. I think Hugh's advice (or questions) are very sound.

I know you have a strong desire to reach as many people as possible (again I can relate) and that's why you created HT- And... There's more work for you to do my friend. More work that you *get to do*. Much more...

What I love about teaching- is the fact that it allows people like us to not only help a group of individuals dramatically improve their own life- it also allows us to be certain they are well trained to get out there helping others do the same- and that's a pretty great feeling.

And there's also the impact you can make with product development- and no I don't just mean products targeted at hypnotherapists- I mean products aimed directly at those that need our help the most- our clients.

I say follow Hugh's sound questions and take things from there. Stay True to your Integrity (which I'm 100% certain you'll always do) and continue to find more and more ways of reaching more and more people in a way that is aligned with the rest of your values (yes- I'm presupposing that Integrity is one of your core values. Call me psychic- but I think it's safe to say that's a no-brainer).

Said differently... Go Scott Go!

Hi Scott,

It sounds like you are being, in the words of Gil Boyne, "one smart cookie"! Some people would keep working the full time schedule with clients and sacrifice chunks of their leisure time to those loved and honorable projects, perhaps eventually experiencing some negative side effect of burn-out...but you have come up with a great way to keep balance in your life while still moving forward.

Please keep doing this so that we may all benefit from your friendship and your mentorship!

Sounds to me like someone needs an apprentice.

Scott,  The only advice I could give you is that it is a question of "impact". What are your goals and objectives? You are in a unique position to impact global perception of major alternative health concerns. So let me ask you what I would ask a client ... "What do you want to do with your life?", "Who do you want to be remembered as, when time expires on your warranty?" Certainly you will be a friend to MANY, but is there something more you want to reach for .. Think about it and get back to me in our next session.

It's a blessing... and a curse.

I wish I shared that "problem," lol. Sounds like you have a great year in front of you.
