Clinical Trials of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy: Where To Find Them

Years ago, my uncle was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer (it had been misdiagnosed for years and got completely out of control.) Surgery and radiation were partially successful, but he was still considered terminally ill, and wasn't given much hope of living. My aunt enrolled him in several human trials of experimental cancer drugs, and they kept him alive years longer than he was expected to survive.

There's an increasing body of knowledge around the effectiveness of hypnosis and hypnotherapy for a number of medical and clinical conditions. Where does that knowledge come from? In most cases, controlled clinical trials.

There are currently over sixty clinical trials of hypnosis and/or hypnotherapy underway, according to a Federal government website, ClinicalTrials.gov. A number of those trials are actively recruiting clinical subjects.

In many cases, clinical trial subjects are reimbursed for travel, and they are not charged for participating.

Here's a list of hypnosis clinical trials that are currently recruiting subjects.

Another great post, Kathleen ... and another example of why I consider you to be one of the best marketing and PR people (especially for hypnotists) in business today

Great job!

It's unfortunate so many of these studies occur outside the US. I didn't look at all of them, but a random selection of 6 were all being conducted in Europe and Canada. It's unfortunate because few of those studies will get published in mainstream US publications.

@Doctor Alan Eastman,

Your account has been suspected by the moderators so I can't contact you privately.

I've deleted the comment of yours I approved yesterday, in response to the four increasingly nasty, incoherent, threatening comments you attempted to post in the middle of the night. Apparently you have a problem with the fact that I have this blog post set so that comments have to be approved by me before they are posted. You, sir, are a perfect example of why I choose to review comments beforehand.

I will include an excerpt from your final, un-approved comment:

I never hurt anybody, scared anybody, and I am not ammused.

As, Adolf Hitler would say also "I have reached the end and of my patience and tolerance."

Wrong. Your attacks have hurt me. You are a complete stranger and I have never done anything to deserve this kind of out-of-the-blue attack. And you've put me in fear of my personal safety with your increasingly irrational threats, mentions of violence, and references to Hitler. I have taken screen captures of your threats and have shared them with the moderators.

You are on notice that I will do whatever it takes to defend myself, both online and in real life, up to and including reporting your threats to appropriate law enforcement agencies and protecting myself with deadly force should you show up anywhere near me.
