Dear reader,
I guess we all know by now that if I told you to not think of a pink elephant, you'd be thinking about one, right? It's because our unconscious has to have a positive image of what it is you're not supposed to be thinking about. So that's why you still have the elephant in your head, even if I told you not to think about it.
Well, a couple of weeks ago our fridge broke down. No cooling system. Of course, it had to be on a saturday morning. I helped my mom to get some stuff out of the fridge. To change to a new, working fridge. There was a box full of stuff, veggies and what not. My mom pulled it out a bit for me to take it and said, "Be careful not to drop it. It's heavy." You know, I hesitated for a second or two to even touch it? In my mind I went: 'Thank you, mom.' Usually the images of what not to do is rather unconscious. This time I very consciously saw myself dropping it. I hesitantly touched the box, carefully lifted it while it was still in the fridge, found I could lift it quite easily and placed it on the table just fine without dropping it or anything.
Edit: I totally forgot about Master Yoda this time! I cite him almost all the time when it comes to trying. You know that scene in Star Wars IV where Luke has trouble getting his ship out of the mud? Yoda tells him to use the force. Luke says he'll try to which Yoda so famousely replies, "Do or do not. There is no try."
Also Richard Bandler suggests that if he said, he tried to open the door. Did he make it? No.
I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned for more!

Comment by Sarah Grabke on February 10, 2012 at 1:58pm I'm getting there. Still loads to learn. I stay curious though and am always willing to learn new things. I wish I had the awareness like Milton Erickson did. He was a genius. All the things he sensed, all his precision with which he used his language (verbal and non-verbal). Of course he had the "bonus" of being paralised for a while, which certainly trained him to get that depth of awareness.
Comment by Kelley Woods on February 9, 2012 at 9:32pm Nice...you now have a new awareness of thought, which gives you a new reaction! Doesn't it feel good to be the boss of yourself?!
