So the nurse in the E.R. is starting my I.V. line & says, and I quote, "This is going to hurt a lot". Guess who got a short teaching about the power of words ! :-)

Aino,

Nurses strike and Christmas weekend is certainly not the time to fall down stairs & break 2 bones in your foot. Especially at 3 o'clock in the morning. All the non emergency room /regular docs are on vacation and their offices are closed also. Hopefully tomorrow, the office of the foot surgeon that was recommended is back. And...Christmas night is also not the best time to have heart stuff especially when there was a sick out of the nurses that the union asked for. The E.R. staff was great both nights but they were overworked and stressed.

Picked up a used wheelchair on Craigs List so at least I can move around here at home. :-)

Thanks for asking!

Why in the world do they not teach that in nursing school not to talk about med school ? Nothing like a bit of embedded commands... sigh.

I had to teach our school nurse to refrain from telling my nonverbal preschoolers, "Don't WORRY -  it won't HURT"   when just having temp taken. Normally they would start screaming at that point. I suggested telling term "I am gonna tickle your forehead to see if you are hot..."  not a single one cried after that.... Finally she got it, then she moved to a different job....sigh

At least new nurse is better trained, but we still had the discussion lol

Are you doing better  Seth-Debora?

Sorry Lisa, the PAC's were the reason I was there but she did learn something new. (but it was a large gauge 16fr needle)  LOL

And with the nurse's words it is no wonder you were throwing PACs! Now he or she knows better. And what you said will spread and grow and help people far beyond that room.

Jackie,

All the docs offices are closed. Hopefully, they will open tomorrow. Many offices are closed during Christmas through New Years.

Lisa,

I guess I was too concerned with the PAC's I was throwing.   :-)

GOOD! I hope she or he teaches others. Does she have your business card when she wants to learn more?

Hope all is well with you and yours.
