HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

I have recently set up a hypnosis wiki that is aiming to help educate the people on all things hypnosis and hypnotherapy related. With your contributions we can help reduce the ignorance and the fear that goes wth this ignorance, and help the hypnosis industry to expand to new areas.

I have just created a page containing a list of notable hypnotists. Please help and add your name with a very brief description (no more than 1 line in total), such as whether you are stage or clinical, and where you are from. I want to create the ultimate hypnosis database, and the inclusion of your name could help you gain some publicity in the future. I have some exciting ideas for this project that could help us all, and you could really benefit from having your name included.

If you wish, you can also add the names of any hypnotists friends you may have - lets see how big we can get this list, and show how big an industry it really i - List of notable hypnotists

Your welcome Jon ... It is a nice way of creating backlinks though and at least you know I read it enough to both agree with Fable and notice the missing "T".

Mixed feelings and thoughts about this.

I can see some of Kathleens points, and also some of Jon's

The idea of a list of notable Hypnotists did make me laugh though. when i realised that anyone who wants to can elect themself as a notable hypnotist. the Ego part of me was tempted, to put my name on there for a laugh, but in all honesty, I realised that somebody was bound to take it seriously, so I though better of it.

Now if a community were to make a genuine list of notable hypnotists, with some sort of consensus process, or even to vote for their top 100 notable hypnotists, that would make a lot more sense.

How utterly stupid of me to not be aware of the letter ''T'' The letter 'T' is for tacky after all! Thanks for your kind words of encouragement Kathleen and Hugh! LOL

Hi Jon,

HypnoThoughts of course doesn't belong to me, and I'm not a moderator, I'm just an incredibly opinionated member. What Scott does or does not do is entirely up to Scott.

I'm sharing my gut reaction to your post promoting your hypnosis wiki, which was posted on a hypnosis site that already includes a hypnosis wiki. If having a hypnosis wiki was really important to you--and you're active on a site that already has one--it seems like it would have been a lot easier to have simply volunteered to manage the one on HypnoThoughts. So, presumably, you're doing this for your own profitable purposes.

I honestly have no problem with your hosting a hypnosis wiki on your site, and doing the work to maintain it. I'm a capitalist, after all. :)

I just think it's weird (and a mite tacky) to use someone else's platform (that already includes a hypnosis wiki) to promote it. Tell me--are you going to put an entry in Scott's hypnosis wiki that promotes your hypnosis wiki?

You're free to interpret this as an "attack" if that makes you feel good. :) But only if it makes you feel good.

Hi Kathleen,

I remember some time ago some people were have similar grumbles when Josh and Taylor set up the Tranced Out community and mentioned it here. Some people thought that it was wrong to mention it here as it was in "competition" with HypnoThoughts. I also remember Scott talking about not seeing these things as "competition", and had no problem with this whatsoever. In fact there is a group about Tranced Out that still remains here. If I though that Scott would have not liked it, then I wouldn't have written about it here. One of the goals of HypnoThoughts is to share hypnosis information and resources, not create a monopoly of it.

I also disagee that this post was against the advertising policy. Here is a quote from it - "If you post something that falls under the category of "overly promotional" one of the moderators will ask you to change it or move it into that group."

The use of the term "overly promotional" to me implies quite strongly that a little promotion is fine. It also says that the advertising policy's "goal is to protect members from feeling 'spammed.'" I really don't feel that people will feel spammed from this post, and it is within the limits of what I regularly see on this site. But that is an issue for the moderators to decide, and so far no one has asked me to move the post, which would have been whole lot more civil than calling my actions 'a mite tacky'. In fact I notice that you put a link to your site at the end of your blog posts - is this against the advertising terms? From a strict interpretation of the quote you gave it would be, as it is unpaid advertising on a blog.

I also don't think that you attacking my post in this way reflects well on you. Do you really think that Scott is the sort of person who is trying to censor things that are deemed "in competition" with him?

Hi Jon,

I presume your goal is to get sufficient traffic to your wiki to use it as an advertising platform eventually, or to drive traffic to your own site, since it's on a subdirectory of your main URL?

My snap reaction was that promoting your wiki on HypnoThoughts was a mite tacky, because at first glance it seems as though you're using the platform that Scott built at great expense to compete against him.

And I think that promoting your wiki on HypnoThoughts does violate the advertising policy, which starts "There is no un-paid advertising a...

It just seemed out of character for you to do something like this. It would be like using HypnoThoughts to promote your own hypnosis social network--it doesn't reflect well on you.

Again, just my gut reactions.

Hi Kathleen,

I'm not sure why it's wierd I post about my hypnosis wiki on here, can you explain why you think its wierd? I'm fairly confident Scott wouldn't have a problem with me mentioning it here, so can't really see the problem, but perhaps I'm missing something?

I have been planning on doing a hypnosis wiki for a long time and have just got round to doing it. I figured there's no reason why I shouldn't still make one. Similarly I didn't see why I shouldn't create a hypnosis download site, just because there are others already there. So far I have had a very good response from my download site, so I don't see any reason why I wouldn't also get a good response from my wiki.

I haven't really looked at the one here, so can't really say how mine is different from it. Probably the big difference is that I'm running mine my way, and Scott is running it his way!

I have no problem with people editing stuff, but I do have a problem with people deleting things for no reason, as would wikipedia.org if I just went round deleting things for no reason. A wiki cannot just be left without any intervention whatsoever, so in this case I intervened. All I did was reinstate the posts that were deleted. I didn't want Celine to think it was me who immediately deleted her post with no reason in the discussion section, which is why I mentioned it here.
