There were so many parallels to hypnosis in this article, that I just have to share it:

Comment by Bill Kennedy on February 9, 2012 at 12:10pm Thank you very much, David! What I found interesting about the article I sited is that it's about using electrical stimulation to enter an altered state of awareness, like a top athlete. I think the PERMA model is after something different.
Comment by David R J Brown on February 7, 2012 at 8:42am This is an insightful talk by Martin Seligman. It predates the PERMA model but covers similar territory

Comment by David R J Brown on February 7, 2012 at 7:58am The Positive Psychology movement has much to offer. Csikszentmihaly wrote "Flow", the classic work on the subject. Seligman includes it in his "PERMA" model of wellbeing which I find compelling:
Positive emotions (specifically a Losada index of 2.9:1 or better, but not more than 13:1 http://positivepsychologynews.com/news/marcial-losada/200812081289
Engagement (the same thing as flow)
Relationtships
Meaning
Achievement
I can highly recommend "Flourish" by Martin Seligman, "Flow" by Mihaly Csiksentmihalyi and "Positivity" by Barbara Fredrickson
