Yes Stephanie, there are many studies about how using hypnosis pre-op will speed up healing, require less anesthesia during surgery and discharge from the hospital sooner.
As a Nurse Anesthetist I saw consistently, when their was rapport there was a decrease in anxiety and hence an easier anesthetic response throughout the surgery. As a hypnotherapist, I have made a hypnosis for surgery CD/MP3 set. One to be listened to pre-op, one to be listened to in the OR during surgery (even general surgery as well as during local anesthesia) and one to be listened to post-op in the recovery room or in the ICU.
In my early days of nursing I worked Oncology. Hence, I have made hypnosis support CD's /MP3's specifically for oncology patients. They cover nausea, chemo/radiation support, pain, body image, immune system & more. I am actually talking next month at the Markstein Cancer Center at Summit Hospital next month.
I am a cancer survivor. All throughout my treatment I heard about how my attitude & thoughts would have an effect on my recovery. This came from my oncologist, nutritionist and many, many nurses. Each surgery I used a 5 minute meditation by Ron Esslinger. I recovered faster, with fewer complications. I credit mindfulness and yoga for helping me to alleviate pain as well as ward off the common depression that hits a majority of survivors.

I love your title, "Medical Hypnotherapy!"
There have been several threads on HT about what practicing hypnotists should use as a professional title. I think you've hit the nail on the head!
