Comment by John Cleesattel on December 22, 2011 at 2:41pm The anxious reside in a borderline survival state in which certain less necessary functions for survival are shut down or stunted. I feel this is what is being observed. Because of this, the anxious will be quick to automatically react.. but they may be slow to realize just why they reacted.

Comment by Kelley Woods on December 22, 2011 at 6:50am This makes perfect sense to me, Michael. Looking at it from a martial arts' awareness set: being aware and paying attention to your surroundings, how people are presenting themselves and the messages they are sending is crucial to survival. Staying calm is crucial to survival. The four dangers are surprise, perplexity, fear and doubt; all require a sensitive, calm and collected state.
Some of the more anxious people are also not the best listeners, I have noticed. They seem to have a unique filter for how they process and how they project communication. I usually have to figure out how to step through that filter in order to be able to be effective.
