So I just got back from the Third Coast Tribal Bellydance Convention, where I once again taught my "Dance Like a Goddess" workshop to a sold out room.

You know the workshop went well if afterwards, a participant you've never met before walks up and says, "That was incredible. Can I give you a hug?"

It was also great running into students from past years who talked about how much they are still using the self-hypnosis tools you taught them.

In other news: Yesterday, I invited one of my regular clients (also a bellydancer) to be interviewed on camera about how hypnosis helped her overcome stage fright. She's one of those people who is so vivacious and charismatic that it's hard to remember that she gets nervous in unfamiliar situations. Well, it's been a real pleasure helping her expand as a performer, but . . .

I didn't really think through the wisdom (or lack thereof) of inviting someone prone to stage fright in new situations to talk in front of a camera.

So a few questions in, my wonderful client was finding herself getting more and more flustered, and I realized what I had to do.

"Take a deep breath, and close your eyes . . . "

I did a very quick hypnosis session to elicit the feeling of chatting with a close friend, amplify those feelings, and then apply them to the camera. :-) After that, she was able to let her incredible charm shine through. I'm really looking forward to getting that commercial up on YouTube.

Happy trancing,

James

You poor man. I hope you're not going to sacrifice yourself to tantrikas too! LOL!!! Thanks for bringing a smile to me - I love the idea of bringing hypnosis to bellydancing! (And Lisa, I love the Tarkan video!)

Hi James,

Thats neat. I do love how the dancers express and become water, fire, air, earth, and spirit. I have seen male middle eastern dancers use moves I associate with belly dancing. This video does quite a bit in celebrating and expressing male sensuality and feeling. Very catchy music as well, Tarken "Hup" mesmerized quite a few in my circle of female friends. The dancing of others in the beginning was what you commonly see but Tarkan's dancing through out the video was rather eye catching :)

Drumming seems like a natural progression-it is magical when a couple can participate in this together.

Wise and compassionate that you allow spouses to audit the course so their fears can be dissipated.

gentle day,

Lisa

@Lisa--Though they are vastly outnumbered, there are male bellydancers. In fact, one of the instructors I consulted with while putting together Dance Like a Goddess is a man: http://www.desertpassion.com/

Typically, the husbands of bellydancers take up drumming as a way to be involved in their wife's hobby. Whenever I do a workshop, I always announce that any spouses of dancers are welcome to audit--that keeps them from worrying that I'm up to something nefarious.

Nice work :)

Are there male belly dancers? Not that I don't appreciate the artistry of the ladies, I certainly do, but here I am learning all these nifty hypnosis skills studying interventions for smoking and such and I am possibly neglecting an entire group of human beings in need.

Hypnosis helped me with stage and audition fright when I was a pup 100 years ago.

gentle mornin'

Dear James,

All I can say is, "Suffer, baby, suffer!" Poor you, having to hypnotize belly dancers! I'm looking forward to seeing a video of that!
