Yup, it's true and we are all in rough seas right now so we all have the chance at improving our sailing skills.

Every where I turn practitioners are having a tough time making ends meet but not me...my practice is packed. 27 hours a week (which by the way, according to research in the service industry is MAX. any more leads to diminishing returns) with a waiting list and I AM NOT SPECIAL.

Here is what most people do. They market their work and then when they are full they stop. BIG MISTAKE!!!

Marketing is your life's work along with your other life's work.
I have talked about marketing activities in other blog posts, so I won't go into detail about it here.

Marketing activities must be connected to current events and how you and your services can help and are the only logical choice for a potential client.

Another big mistake is that they try and do everything that is not their work, Ie; book keeping, accounting and reception. All this does is take time away from the one job you are the only one to do and that is marketing.

For most of us in private practice we have fixed costs.
Rent, phone etc...During these times it is important to cut costs as well and look for ways to save money.

Recently one of my clients renegotiated her lease. If you don't ask, you don't really know.

All these to say you must keep your eye on the money and market at all times.

and.... as I am always reminding colleagues - Do your self hypnosis.
I am constantly amazed at the number of hypnotists who do not use self hypnosis each and every day to reach their goals. If you don't believe this is going to help you then do not be suprised if your practice does not flourish.
For the record, I am booked solid until September and then beyond. I regularly do hypnosis for (among other goals) focusing on the number and type of clients I am drawing to my practice even though others tell me you can not make a living helping people with hypnosis where I live. What the mind expects etc. etc. Do it.. it works!
There - got that off my chest:-)

Yes, I mean direct client work. Those in the service industry must pay full attention while delivering there service. Most people who work in offices only work about an hour a day.

The range is between 24-27 hours per week.

The day aside was something that was introduced by Dan Sullivan, the stratigic coach. This is the work on your biz day. One full day to tend to marketing, sales, finances and planning. My day is Friday! ;-)

Hi, I am curious re: 27 hours a week --- do you mean directly working with clients? Is that considered a lot in this field?

Can you expand on the research that shows diminishing returns? Thanks!

PS. One good tactic is to set aside one full day as "marketing day".
