Sometimes a client can be very frustrating.

I did a recording for a client for migraine relief. After 3 weeks of listening to the recording I asked for a progress report. As a note I should add that the induction I use is a modified Elman induction. So the client reports that they aren’t hypnotized because they can open their eyes even though I tell them they can’t (I don’t say “can’t”).

The interesting thing is they haven’t had a headache in 3 weeks. They used to have one every few days and at least once a week they would build into a migraine.

So it is just frustrating that they think hypnosis doesn’t work yet it has done exactly what it was being used for.

Hey Jack,

You might check this out:

The more I play with it, the more I like it. Do it with the expectancy induction format. Its quick, easy, and they experience total arm catalepsy. It redirects their focus, gives them something to do, and is effective on all sorts of levels.

I hope this helps you.

I feel your frustration . . .

I find that the Elman works best for me if I put the responsibility on the client's shoulders: "Relax your eyes so much that they prefer to stay shut even if you try in vain to open them . . . " If they open their eyes, I just say, "Great, you've proved that you can open your eyes; now prove that you can lock them shut."

It's also important to explain to clients that hypnosis (especially with a recording) isn't the loss of will and awareness they see on television.

For this exact issue I found that the use of hypnotic testing is essential.
First make the subject recognize they are in a deep hypnotic state, before doing the job of helping them!
This makes the result that much effective and the client will be bringing everybody around to your practice because:"You are an amazing hypnotist, who does things you can't believe."
One of these tests is displayed in the video I posted, but off-course you can use arm lifting, eye-closure and whatever you can think off.
Put at least 3 of these tests in there, so if one fails, you always have the others giving you backup!
Polarity responders will soon be the best advertisement, you could imagine.

Good work, Jack!

I've got one of those, too. Never quite believes he's hypnotized, yet he is reaching all his goals and keeps coming back. He thinks maybe hypnosis is "to blame" for his successes (with a look of surprised disbelief).

Methinks they protest too much!
