And so ends another season... This one was particularly challenging. It started with the 50 mile, Ore-2-Shore mountain bike race in Marquette, MI. I experineced excrutiating inner thigh leg cramps, which started just 19 miles into the race. I found my self hypnosis skills put to the test. I was NOT going to walk off this race course! ("Pain is temporary, quitting is forever" - Tyler Hamilton.) I geared down and began to talk to my muscles, telling them to relax. (Who cares what the other riders think of my speaking directly to my legs, outloud?) My legs responded and I continued. The race was hard but I finished; not this year on the podium.
Then began about 8 weeks of physical therapy and more self hypnosis on the bike. Racing in September, in the Peak-2-Peak, Crystal Mountain Resort, MI. I again had conversations with my legs and myself: "Just focus on the course, and you could win this one", "Concentrate, concentrate", "Good job, good job". And I did, First place! Coming in a whole 14 minutes ahead of the field.
I feel my perfomance was mostly due to self hypnosis and the strong positive affirmations. My therapist wanted me to take a break and stay off the bike for a while, but I told him, OUR job was to keep me on the bike and performing to the end of the season, after Iceman in November (also a stronger performance than in years past).
WE did it. Belief and Intention is everything.
