I found out today that a VERY well known hypnotist has used my work, word for word, to make CD programs. He has been selling them in the UK for a while, but I was alerted by one of my customers.

This man even used MY customers testimonials and stories as if they were HIS. A story I told about a friend... he uses it on his website, and just says it is "his friend".

Personally, I like people with integrity. I had to spend money on an attorney to stop the blatant use of my scripts and programs at instant-hypnosis.com. Now I have yet another hypnotist who seems to feel that a person's life work is available to be used and claimed as his own.

I won't name him, you all probably saw me call him out on the mat on twitter today. I just wanted to ask you all if you have had this happen or had to deal with people stealing your material and claiming it as their own.

Some people have balls.
If you want to know the identity, take a peek at my twitter posts from earlier. www.twitter.com/wenditv

Was it wrong for me to expose him publicly?

Say lets see you here again soon!

Hello Wendi:

I just stumbled into this discussion and the essence of it need not be taken as just what one has taken from another but the elevation of human conscience itself. I have people including students use my work, my phrases and even outright quote me and that makes me happy because it means I have spread my immortal wings. But then I have had my trust and friendships betrayed, once by a long time friend and his wife that stole my creative work and marketed it for thier own profit and at the expense of my being able to market it myself. I was left with the option of suing or not being able to sell my work to a publisher. I chose to have mercy and not to sue and am out nearly $500,000 in residuals. Then after I spared his lousy skin, he came back and wanted me to sign over my copyrights. You have my shoulder and my understanding because it is not just "things" stolen but a part of yourself that you have poured into the work.

Best Wishes,

Rick Crockett -Bentized even once by you!

You appear to have chosen to not respond to my comments Wendi.

Not sure how to take that.

But thanks for reading it, anyway.

Love and hugs,

"For the same effort that you spend copying someone else's work and dodging around to keep them from finding out about it you could have created something new that would add to the field. "

So true.

Taking the step of creating your own stuff, is empowering and liberating in itself.

Wendi... You are formidable! you take no prisoners. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of you.

As a student of marketing and hypnosis, I'm curious about pursuing a licensing model as a potential solution for all the issues that have surfaced in this thread so far. I absolutely love Wendi's work and that of Mark Cunningham. I would love use their stuff as a springboard for my own stuff. Licensing would give some financial incentive and protection to share the words as written. Let's figure out a way to use good stuff when we find it and benefit all parties involved.

I think people who do these things have such a lack of integrity that they do not feel guilty about doing them. I was accused a couple of years ago of plaigerizing someone else's work. It was interesting because I had given my book on this topic to this lady several years before she published her own book on the subject. Then, she accused me of lifting paragraphs from her book. I've known her for some time and do not think she would intentionally plaigerize someone else's work. Did she read mine all those years ago and certain things stuck in the recesses of her mind only to re-emerge in her own work? I can't say. That is something that I think we all do from time to time in bits and pieces, but not in whole. But, to use your cient testamonials is damning. That says he was simply too lazy to use his own or to paraphrase. I can't count on both hands the number of people who have ripped off my work and are passing it off as their own. One man spent time in a Texas prison for doing that to some of us. Gil Boyne personally shut some woman's school in San Diego down a few years ago when I caught her. She had taken my IBS and Fibro courses, had taken the books apart and copied them into her own training manuals for her school. Some of her students filled out the exam at the back of the book and submitted it for certification! The Universe rewarded her with a stroke.

For the same effort that you spend copying someone else's work and dodging around to keep them from finding out about it you could have created something new that would add to the field.

Hi Melissa- let's think of a way to produce work and also scare the shit out of anyone who thinks about copying it.
I am always amazed that people use work word for word, especially in print as you have said. How do people have the balls to blatantly plagiarize by copying and pasting. Aren't they clever enough to recreate it in their own words at least? And the ethics of it, how do the live with themselves.

I've had the same thing happen so many times I can't count. There is one hypnotherapist in the Boston area who took my IBS training several years ago and now he is recording my therapy scripts and selling them over the internet and his TV show. Another well known hypnotherapist in California stole my How To Get MD Referrals work (after I GAVE her the book) and cut and pasted it into her own book on medical hypnotherapy. She also stole other's works and advertised and taught them as her own--using thier client stories as her own. I bought her pain control book and saw my work, and several of my friends work but very little to none of her own. She simply took all of our work that we sweated to develop and repackaged it as her own. As a result, I will no longer write and publish. There is a very important piece of marketing to the medical community that I have been doing that promotes what we do in a light the medical community can embrace. Will I write it up and publish it? No way. I'm done. It's the result of being ripped off one too many times. So, who loses? the entire hypnosis community and the individual clients. Go after him, Wendi. This behavior is wide-spread and has to stop.

Sorrry Wendy,

You appear to have misread or missinterpreted me.

I did not say that 'He' had told me anything,
I said what my understanding was from "the grapevine" ,
and asked for clarity, rather than more blame and shame tactics.

It was myself who used the word 'Inadvertantly'
based upon various comments by a number of people.
So I take full responsibility for the use of that word.

Over the past years, I have heard many good reports about you and your work, (on the grapevine), although I have never spoke to you, or even read or listened to any of your work. There are obviously a lot of people who hold you in high regard.

I and although I have never met, spoke to, or heard anything recorded by Adam, I have also heard very good reports about his work, his skills and reputation.
A lot of people also hold him in high regard,
and I don't believe any of that is based on his use of some of your material.

Whether his mistake was an error of judgement, ill informed advice, or lack of research of the origin of the material, I don't know.
But I don't think a mistake, is sufficient ,
for me to make generalisations about
a persons whole character and reputation.

Just as I am not likely to dismiss all the good
things I have heard about you and your reputation,
soley on the basis of your remarks in this blog.

We have all made some big mistakes in our lives, (I know I have!).
Do you really need your pound of flesh from this man?

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

I freely admit, I take the quote from shakespeare,
(A man who has been accused of plagiarism over the years, but his reputation still is in tact)

LOve and hugs,

Fable

No, not one. There are several programs. He has removed several of them from his site. If he says it is just one, he is lying. He is comfortable with that sort of thing. On several web pages he used my written copy, he had audio introductions in his voice that used my experience and research word for word, and recorded multiple programs using my content recorded in his voice word for word. Did he use the word inadvertently? Funny.
