Time to Abolish the 1952 Hynotism Act !

Hi Everyone,

This is such a stumbling block here in the United Kingdom and its about time everyone in the hypnotic community here in the UK Stood together and signed a petition to get this Abolished or seriously amended.

Please respond to this with your name and say I wish to have the Act Abolished.

It has been proved with cases such as Paul Mckenna's that hypnosis on stage poses a threat to no one as long as basic guidelines are followed these would include..

1, Hypnotist had valid Public and Professional Liability Insurance,
2. Hypnotist has been trained to a reasonable standard,
3. All hypnotees fully understand that no harm can be caused by entering hypnosis,
4. Under 18s have Legal consent to enter into hypnosis.
5. No one suffering Mental Health Issues,Back Problems,Pregnant ladies, Vunerable persons, Under the influence of
Drugs or Excessive Alchohol.
6. Adequate Medical Procedures are in place (St Johns Ambulance or Similar)
7. Hypnotist is fully trained in all aspect of health and safety.

That is all I can add at this time - if you can think of any others you feel relevant please feel free to coment.

Lets get Stage Hypnotism back into the mainstream - and best of all - HAVE FUN !

Thanks for reading and Join my Revolution today.

Warmest Regards
Dr Rob

Personally, I have no problems with the safety guidelines in the 1952 Hypnosis Act.. What is frustrating is every local authority giving their own version of those guidelines. It should be self regulating, allowing performers to perform shows whenever and wherever they like.

due to the safty issue i would also sugest that catalepsy remains a no no, some one who has no back problems could aquire them whilst weight is applied

Rob, I am all for a complete abolishment of the 1952 Hypno Act, but not a review. It must be all or nothing. Asking Politicians to review an act that they have absolutely no concept of, would be like giving a 5 year old plutonium and asking him to build you a nuclear power plant. As I see it at the moment, your "guidelines" aren't much different to the existing Act (with the amendments and taking into account the recent licensing laws, which also cover the use of hypnotism).

To overturn the law, you will need hard facts, figures and the opinions of qualified and respected professionals (but not hypnotists!). Not just a petition. It will be a long hard climb, but as always, anything I can do, just let me know and I will help out.

To quote Dr Royle "there is no such thing as hypnosis" - so why have a law that prohibits something that doesn't exist? It was good enough for Queen Victoria and her view on lesbians...

i agree, get rid of this silly law.

dont get me wrong
but you are kinda contradicting yourself by suggesting new regulations
to a law you want to abolish?
