This may be a bit late for your inquiry. I had a client several years ago who I worked with using EFT for this issue and it was successful for her. If your client is still suffering from "hair pulling" I'd be pleased to talk to her on the phone and show her how to use EFT...it will probably work for her. Time required (First Session - 90 minutes), followup sessions if required 30-45 minutes. No charge unless successful!

Hair pulling may be a form of self mutilation or self punishment your client is inflicting upon herself subconsciously for reason unknown. I would recommend you to do a regression therapy with her to find out the reason for her guilt or anxiety. Eliminating the reason of anxiety will most probably solve her problem with hair pulling as well. Just giving her direct suggestions to stop hair pulling might not work.

Hope this help you, and let me know if it does.

I had trich as a young girl and I managed to stop. I'm working with a client now who has s severe case.. I also learned that another client of mine who had had it also when she was younger, ended up using a nicotine patch to help her break her habit. That's an interesting thought.

I'm doing a lot of anti-anxiety/anti-panic work with her, which I've done a lot of, to reduce the tension. I had also been moving towards a habit like smoking to draw from, and now that my second client shared that with me, I'll incorporate that.

It's definitely a tensional outlet, so I also work on the client becoming aware of the feelings/tension that precedes their wanting to pull. Then I give them so alternative tensional outlet choices.

I noticed that on Mark Tyrell's Hypnosis Downloads site that he had a couple of scripts for trichotillimania (sp ??). I've always found his scripts to be really valuable and not too expensive. You might want to look there. I'm probably going to buy them myself, just because I like to be thorough.

I'll tell a little secret about trich: there's something very pleasurable about the snap of the hair from the scalp, not unlike what seems to happen when people smoke, or overeat, or any of the obsessive-compulsive, addictive kinds of behaviors: I've read that neurologically there is a little burst of serotonin>endorphin with both cigs, hair pulling, drinking, overeating...even cutting. I think that a little 'assault' on the body, triggers a small burst of serotonin>endorpins, but that's just a guess.

A lot of addiction research seems to indicate that many addictive people are low in serotonin (or in the ability to recycle/reuptake) and their behaviors release that "well-being" brain chemical so they feel better for a moment. I think this disorder probably falls into a similar neurological group.

I hope that helps. Keeps us updated and I will do the same.

BTW: John Cerbone has a really good script book (from what I've heard...I haven't quite had the money to buy it yet). You might ask him if there is a trich script in there or if he can point you in some kind of direction.
