in this community is encountering what strikes me as arrogance and intolerance being expressed by some of the most prolific members of our community.

It surprises me because of an expectation I have that those who have come to learn the incredible power of mind and use it professionally to give their clients experiences of feeling good, apparently do not use it constantly to enjoy similiar experience.

Perhaps the reason for my surprise is that I err in my thinking that expressions of arrogance and intolerance do not feel good.

Just sharing these thoughts since they came up for me and I think it's a good idea to bounce them off whoever my be attracted to this post.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this discussion.

@ Gail - as your thoughts in the matter correspond with my own I am pleased to see them.

@ Paul - Lovely thoughts, for sure Paul and I deeply appreciate them as they serve to remind me

how often I fall asleep without even noticing it without some reminder from someone such as

yourself. I feel honored to have you as a friend.

@ Doc - your teacher's motto, T H I N K, reminds me as that word also being the logo for IBM back in the 60's (unless my memory is failing me on this) and I can see how you my consider your experience on that as a privilege.

@ Michael E. - your words always provoke further thought for me and I appreciate them.

@ John - your thoughts combined with Paul's have given me a expanded insight on my own thinking in this matter so you know I am grateful for them.

@ Burt -I do appreciate that admission and I like Paul's thoughts on how to make that experience more in accord with what I like to experience.

@ Kelly - Yes, I too have noticed that often happens.

@ Graham - Yes, of coarse that is possible.

@ Michael H. - keen insights indeed.

@ Doc - if by self you mean ego I think I understand what you're saying.

Ron ~ I agree with you regarding anyone expressing arrogance and intolerance. It is (to me) a sign of their "negative, fearful and judgmental ego" that has not grown and matured in this physical plane. It is a reflection of the immaturity of their self esteem. I am a "trainer" and "instructor" and it is my responsibility to bring my knowledge to help those learn in a safe and trusting environment. I hope I answered this question as I am confused to some of the posts here. xoxox

For me ~It really doesn't matter in experience as we are all teachers and students and our sole job is to direct our own experience in positive directions help others where we can and not be concerned too affected by the external interactions of those around us apart from spreading positive vibes of tolerance, compassion.................
I am still a work in progress as is everyone...just my thought...happy trance~ing

@Michael re: What is the difference between a hypnosis trainer and a hypnosis educator?

Trainers teach skills through practice and instruction. I consider the title "trainer" most appropriate for traditional hypnotherapy instruction. "Instructor" is also correct. It is hopeful that most trainers and instructors offer their best when they teach their students. I certainly go above and beyond giving classic lessons to my students and introduce them to modern and advanced methods of hypnotherapy.

I understand the word "educator" to be more conventional, and therefore a less accurate present day description. Educators give intellectual, moral, and social instruction at schools or universities. They provide a systematic approach to "in the box" learning. Since hypnotherapy is not presently accepted as a mainstream curriculum, your idea is a bit askew, yet interesting.

Your notion that one is encouraged to think for themselves is quite profound. Giving individuals the opportunity to have particular or unique opinions, beliefs or ideas about anything is something that I find lacking in our american school system and perhaps this deficit is worldwide. Many years ago, I had the "privileged" experience of being educated by a school teacher. She embedded the motto T-H-I-N-K into every students' brain in her classroom. Those days are but a memory now.

@ John,

You reply reminds me of the late, Howard "Telling it like it is" Cossell: Arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, verbose, a showoff. I have been called all of these. Of course, I am

It seems self-evident to me that teachers and students who feel better teach and learn more effectively.

@ Readers

What is the difference between a hypnosis trainer and a hypnosis educator?

Hypnosis Trainers teach you what to think (My way or the highway) and Hypnosis Educators offer you the best they have at a moment in time and encourage you to think (That's just my expert opinion and I might be wrong, =^..^= but I doubt it =^..^=)

Ron,
I have found in parallel...

...that many teachers are also viewed as arrogant and intolerant by their students. The teachers feel they are just telling the truth as they know it, and the students either accept it as truth or find another teacher. Neither is there to help the other feel better.

At times, I do have to admit, I am frustrated by the lack of direct answers in here, or the hijacking or diversion of a thread

It is my experience that our expressions of judgement and distaste are often regarding the very subjects with which secretly we struggle.

'Perhaps the reason for my surprise is that I err in my thinking that expressions of arrogance and intolerance do not feel good.'

I guess the other possibility is that what you perceive to be expressions of intolerance or arrogance are not.

Ron,

Expectations... they're "coloring" our world all the time, usually outside the field of our conscious awareness.

People are attracted to hypnosis and/or become Hypnosis Practitioners for many different reasons, all of which emanate from living the life of a Human (both strengths and weaknesses).

The way people, can and do, compartmentalize their lives is interesting/surprising indeed.
