This was the first volunteer of the evening and specifically asked us to make him do something stupid. I was going to do magnetic fingers and then hands, but the look on his face when he started the fingers was so good that I decided that I didn't need to do hands as well and went straight in. for some reason I completely failed with this chap and left Enrich with nothing to work with. Interestingly, afterwards he said that he thought that we were tricking him somehow and were going to make him do something stupid - confusing seeing as he asked us to do so... Any idea what happened here? If anyone has any constructive criticism or pointers as to where I could have gone wrong or how to improve, please Comment. PS. I am working on a tan for my incredibly pale head :-)

It doesn't look quite as bad a crash and burn as you make it out to be in the description. So, first, stop being so hard on yourself. You gave it a go, didn't get as strong a result as you would have liked, c'est la vie. Second, be wary of using that style of finger magnets setup as an induction. It's not nearly as reliable as other variations. The handclasp variant of the finger magnets is used by thousands as an amazing demonstration of mind power but actually it is mostly a physiological effect. Even without the suggestion of fingers moving together, they should naturally move together because of the positioning of the fingers creating a physical pressure to move. We use it as a means to enhance the imagination by mislabeling the effect which is enhanced by suggestion. The "seduction" folks have picked up on this and have begun using it as a pickup gambit as well (see Mystery's first season of "The Pickup Artist." For a true suggestibility variant of finger magnets, make two separate fists and extend the index fingers, bringing the fists together so that the thumbs are aligned then run the magnet/gravity patter focusing on the extended fingers. There is no natural tendancy toward the fingers moving together so you then know you have a suggestibility effect. I believe I included this variation in my basic dvd set for those with an interest. I just recently taught five variations of finger magnets in my recent courses in India and will likely have even more for the folks at the Walkabout in LA in August (albeit, that's neither here nor there). If I start with a suggestibility effect like this, I will sequence the effect to move into other effects of higher rating such as arm catalepsy which is then switched about and moved until I go to something like name amnesia or the like and then hallucinations. The guy was a low responder in your crash and burn as he didn't have a sharp enough critical factor bypass and was watching a bit too much for the payoff "joke" on himself. Sometimes folks say they are really interested in feeling an effect but put up resistance through a bit too much conscious control. Take it as an experience and don't fret too much about one particular instance. If you start seeing a pattern of a slew of folks not responding to the degree you need them to respond then start deconstructing for nuances. IMO.

All the best,
Brian

i agree and say yes, anything can be used as an induction,
but as you say, 'in the right situation'.

never mind though, hypnosis in never guaranteed 100% of the time,
forget this one and be prepared for the next time when you are
luckily enough to come across a somnambulist.

Cheers for the feedback! Chris; you're right - perhaps a little patience on my part to see through the "test" and on to a proper induction (although I do feel that anything can be used as an induction under the right circumstances). John, I have to say that I didn't get that vibe off him and he was well up for it later as well as asking us to help him give up smoking. Hugh, that's a big help regarding the dangling arms and I will make quite sure to keep them out of sensation's way next time. Personally I feel my biggest failure was to give up and I blame nerves and the camera for it ;-)

Next time I'll own it! :-D

I don't think that your rapport with him was enough to get you through the "enviorenmental factors". He was very uncomfortable when you had him down the first time. When you drop with hands locked like that he has no way to "Dangle" properly and is immediately aware of his arms and shoulder. Watch Richard and John's Speed trance stuff. First rule in any induction like that is to get the left arm out of the way. Lots of other "technical issues" here. I agree with John "doomed from the start" You needed to play with him more, build a stronger rapport by strenghting your pretalk, close down the space between you and use something like an arm drop that allows you to use the passive aggressive macho energy he is giving off to your advantage. YES he is resisting you. You have acquiesance... but not compliance.

From what you say, it sound like he was one of those "lets see if I can resist" kind of people. Looking for attempts of trickery keeps the conscious mind front and center which is probably why you had difficulty. The goal being to prove he was able to resist right from the beginning, it was somewhat doomed from the start. If you run into this type again, you may want to witch to an instant induction like an arm jerk or handshake.

usually, the 'magnetic' fingers is used as a mass subject test,
giving you the oppertunity to pick and choose.
i would'nt use it as an induction myself.

there was no pre-talk with this guy.
so he had no idea what to expect, or how to feel.

as for the pale head...hey, i live in the uk, i know all about it, ha ha ha
