Comment by Lisa on September 9, 2011 at 4:46pm Wow, Richard, I am continually amazed at the high quality and the thought you put into the videos you make available for everyone.
So often in instruction pretalk is said to be vitally important to the entire process, and then nothing much more is really said about it as if we should already know how to do it. Lots of focus is given to different inductions and deepeners and termination with not enough guidance given on the how and why of the pretalk. The pretalk looks vital to me because that is where you are getting the information to determine the most effective approach for a client and what direction they want to go. Experienced practitioners having worked with hypnosis and clients everyday for years parts of the process become nearly automatic for them and they sometimes seem to forget when you are a beginner it just isn't yet. What they have learned through their experience is still a bit of a mystery to the rest of us just starting out. They forget what it is really like to just be starting out new. Yeah, we are very concerned about how to do an induction but that sure isn't the only part.
Thanks for making this video. I bet even very experienced hypnotherapists will get very useful information from your pretalk video.

Comment by Damon on September 9, 2011 at 12:32pm Very insightful. Thanks for sharing! Also, if I may ask, why did you forego long-term therapy in lieu of shorter-term hypnotherapy sessions? Just curious as to which experiences led you to your decision because I’m considering limiting my scope of practice. Thanks again.
