In the Publicity Trenches

Whew!

I've spent pretty much all day whittling away at my marketing and development to-do list. I'm posting wherever it's free and a few places it isn't, and I've approached several local organizations about giving presentations and demonstrations. I contacted a local charity about donating a session to their raffle, and I designed the gift certificate. I've ordered door magnets for my truck (after discovering that my wife's car doors are not magnetic) and looked into getting a hat with my logo on it. (Robert Kirk told me that he gets a lot of mileage out of his jacket with the company logo. Here in Texas, a jacket isn't going to do me much good, but I rarely leave home without a baseball cap.)

One thing I've found, and maybe some of the more experienced folks have some wisdom on this, is that a lot of the social networking clubs (Kiwanis, Lions, Optimists, and so on) make themselves surprisingly hard to contact. Only a few of the local chapters have websites, and many of those lack contact email. Is it a generational thing? Anyway, it looks like there's some cold calling in my future. Any pointers for talking to these groups would be appreciated.

Time to crawl into bed . . .

Good to hear you are busy for the right reasons, James. Why not pose that question in the Texas Transmakers group. I know there's only 4 of us at the moment, but the responses may help others in the area. Sleep well friend!

As an officer in a Masonic Lodge, perhaps I can give you some insight. Most of these groups only meet once or twice a month, and sometimes go "dark" over the summer. The leadership rotates annually, so todays tech savvy president, might be replaced by an 80 yr old with no computer. The secretary is usually the best contact person, as they stay in office year after year for continuity. If you can get a name, most folks are very open to calls at home. Masonic meetings, usually have a open dinner an hour before a closed meeting, where you would not be unwelcome I've done many "talks" in my area of the state, and they are a rich source of clients and referrals.
