Hey everyone-
I just joined the site and am really liking it so far. Just wanted to pick your brains about something I call hypno-nos (stuff hypnotists should definately not do). Mostly this list is funny stuff to mention but still important to remember.

You know, anything from eating a bunch of garlic before your client shows up to taking a client out on a date. I'm sure we all have plenty of things to share, and it could be a fun list to see.

Sooooooo.... Whatcha got? What should be on a list of hypno-nos?

ps- extra credit if you have actually learned one of these the hard way.

Hmmmm....My list of things never to do in a session

1. Let the client fall asleep
2. Tell my clients it's okay to fall in love for me (Joking)
3. Trying to place my beliefs onto the client
4. Using words like wake up, subject, going under
5. Working with a medical issue without a written referral from a licensed health care professional.

Well just a few that I make sure to never do, except for the falling in love (I made that up for fun) That would be a bad thing to do. Oh never call your client dumb either ;)

Nice Josh-
What about untrained hypnotist trying to do to much? I met a guy who wanted to open a practice after going to a single hypnosis session as a client. He found out there was no legal regulation and just decided to open up shop!

When I told him that was a bad idea he said to me, "you can't corner the market on helping people."

So I told him about abreactions and false memory syndrome. He said he would think about it.

Talk about a Hypno-no

You mean like the high school kid over on YouTube doing hypnosis on the side of a road? The one where he triggers trance for one of his friends (who then falls down into the drainage ditch) and doesn't even realize that his OTHER friend reacted to the SAME trigger and ALSO fell down into the SAME ditch?

Or the same kid doing HIS version of Darren Brown's "Force Punch" via post-hypnotic suggestion and causing his friend to double over and fall to the ground in pain - and then claim that he told him he would NOT feel it - when the video has CLEARLY recorded him saying that "you will feel it here (indicates the abdomen) like a fist..." is that the kind of thing you mean?

I'd say those were some SERIOUS Hypno-no's!

WOW, those are some serious hypno-no's. I decided to check them out and this guy really is a bad example of a hypnotist. He gives younger hypnotist like me a bad name. I also notice he seems to think you are a untrained hypnotist in his comments. This guy needs a lesson in manners as well. I guess it will take a serious accident to make him rethink his position.

I'm actually working on a site which deals with hypno-no's. These would be a very good addition of what NOT to do. Thanks for bringing these videos to my attention. I recommend other people check these videos out and learn what NOT to do.

BTW, Thanks for all the great post Lee. You have some really great advise and insight.

Wow-
Thanks for sharing those major hypno-nos.

Would you mind embeding the video, adding it to the site, or sending us the link so we can see those for ourselves?

Definately a lesson in what not to do,

Thanks for the support on this, people. This kid is a train wreck that's not waiting to happen - he's actively TRYING to happen, in my professional opinion. He seems to be willfully ignorant of ANY safety concerns, even to the idea that a CAR could have hit the group while they were on the side of the road or that a rock could have fractured one of his friend's skulls when either of them took those falls.

And to say that he was extremely lucky on the force punch thing because the kid's dad decided that it was "funny" (which makes me wonder about that kid's dad as well!) and didn't SUE his sorry backside just flabbergasts me - and my flabbers aren't easily gasted, I'll have you know!

Well, like the man said - if you can't serve as a shining goal, you can always serve as a horrible example - and this kid proves it!

Extra Credit- Trusting someone to catch the subject when you use a trigger on him. The guy caught him, but didn't seem to think a triggered person is A LOT of dead weight and almost dropped him.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Fullmoonpred Can anyone help me by pointing out any other hypno-nos I do?

Hi Wereman-
I just watched the video you posted, you might want to add it to the video section to get more feedback.

As far as my response to your video, I like the invisible gag and you clearly had a deep trance suject, which is great. Your subject just looked a little more disturbed than I would like to keep someone for that extended a period.

I would make sure the subject feels good about what is happening. When I was first getting started I played with this gimick every once in a while and found one person that really didn't like it. I would make sure to tell them they will be excited and happy about what is happening and to always trust that things are safe. You want them to want to come back, after all.

Thanks for sharing,
Scott

Well, I know all these guys, as we are all in the same choir, so I knew what the level for too much was. If I had seen someone who I didn't know looking like he does in the video, I would have went to another bit.

I totally get that,
In fact, I did a lot of that stuff with my friends as well. I hope my feedback didn't come across too negatively, it was just a piece of constructive criticism that I wish I had recieved earlier as I was having fun with my friends.

Sometimes it's more fun to watch the person be really excited about it rather than creeped out, but that's totally my opinion. As long as he was happy when you brought him out I guess you are in good shape.

thanks,
