While I haven't seen Derren Brown do this, I have seen other people so something similar. In fact, when I was doing work with USC and UCLA dental schools I had a chance to do something like this. We had one dental student pierce the skin of a hypnotized classmate with no discomfort. We even did the old trick of having it bleed in one spot but not the other, then having them switch.

This is a classic hypnosis technique that is very easy to do with practice and confidence. In that case I used direct suggestion, but knowing Derren Brown he probably created a big ritual with a moody atmosphere and told the story of something happening along the lines of a dead body, and hand going numb spontaneously, watching someone do something and feeling nothing at all, etc.

If that's the case than it's simply ritualistic creation of belief and expectation using embedded commands and ericksonian language patterns.

Ankit, it is difficult to answer your questions because I don't know how much hypnosis experience/training/knowledge you have. Your bio on your page only says 'mentalist.' Like I said in the other post, getting to the level of skill Derren is displaying would take years of practice, not a recipe of steps. There is no checklist, but basic operators and understandings can be provided. That said, without the propper foundation those insights will be useless.

Nobody suggested you were doing this "for exposures" but now you mention it, I'm beginning to wonder.
I have explained to you in another discussion, these are not "magic tricks."
Even if they were, you are unlikely to find explanations here or indeed on any other forum.
As a practicing mentalist, you, like any other magician, would know that wouldn't you?
