I have been investigating the realm of the spirit world. I have been doing this pretty much all my life. Obsessively is a word that comes to mind. I came to the practice of Hypnosis late in life- 55 years old. I had a lot of reading behind me at that point. Edgar Cayce, Lobsang Rampa, Barbara Hand Clow, Carlos Castaneda and many others . I explored a lot of blind alleys and wrong turns.
As I began practicing I adapted shamanic techniques to deal with my clients needs, with very good results. There are some things in shamanism that are prevalent everywhere on the planet. Archaeologists and anthropologists find similar strange devices in there research. They are called "soul catchers". Typically they are a hollowed out piece of bone with a carved animal head at both ends, fangs hanging into the opening. They are used by the shaman to retrieve a piece of ones soul. Upon returning from the spirit journey the shaman blows though the tube with the other end placed on the heart and crown of the head area of the "client", blowing the soul piece back into the body.
Early in my practice my clients would spontaneously identify a missing piece of themselves. At first I didn't know what to do. We would enter into negotiations with some success. Then I read about the "soul catcher". The next time it happened I asked if the client and the soul part were ready to re-unite. They usually say yes, having gotten to that point in their journey. I then would ask if they would like me to blow the fragment into their body? When they agree. I then make a hollow tube out of my two hands and perform the miracle. A thrilling moment for us both.
Another common practice of shamans is to give the client a spirit animal. The shaman journeys for the client, finds the animal spirit and does the same thing as with the soul piece. I have my clients travel down a river in a boat of their own choosing. (if they are ok with water etc.) I tell them to observe the sky over head, the surface of the water and under the water and both banks of the river. Eventually an animal spirit will either get into the boat with them or start talking to them. I then ask if I should blow the spirit into their body. The animal spirit guides the journey. " Ask your animal helper if he or she will take you to the first place we should go on your journey to better health and prosperity (or whatever) in 5 4 3 2 1..."
It should be a wild animal and not a domesticated animal. One client was looking at a horse on the riverbank. I asked him if it was a wild horse. He said it looked unkempt so I thought we'd give it a try. It got into the boat with him. An owl began flying overhead. The Owl said "Hey you're looking at a horses ass!"
I read a book by Eloit Cowan called "Plant Spirit Medicine". He is an acupuncturist who studied shamanisn. He journeys to find plant spirits for his clients. I began to ask the animal guide if it could identify any beneficial plant spirits. This worked wonderfully. |The client would sees the spirit as an entity, an animal or humanesque type of thing ( not everyone "sees" it). I then ask the animal spirit to transfer the plant energy to the client. Typically they can smell and taste it. My mother had a parsley binge that turned her cheeks crimson in two silver dollar size circles.

Bill... I find your studies very intersting. I also have used spirit animals with clients. I combine my spirituality with my hypnosis easily.. and some come to me for that very reason. Using the plant spirit opens up much more for me...and especially since I'm learning more and more about herbology. Now I've got loads to think about... this weekend... while working my 12 hr shifts... Smiles
Thanks

I'm glad you picked up on the plant spirit idea. I can't recommend Eliot Cowans book enough. With this technique you don't have to know anything to speak of about herbs.

I occasionally like to say that a hypnotist is a shaman in a necktie--except that I don't like to wear neckties.

Bill, it's nice to see others using an adaptive approach to spiritual and trance-based technologies. This is one of the areas I particularly love. I teach a class on this very subject . . . http://www.briandavidphillips.com/training/metaphysical_taipei.html . . . by the way, if you're unfamiliar with parts therapy process then take a look at it with spirit fragments in mind. I too use spirit animal guides upon request.

Hi Bill,

Your email is interesting, thanks for sharing. I do a lot of spiritual hypnosis with clients, including past life regression and interlife work incuding entity release. I am very interested in learning more of the sharmanic practices of soul retrieval. I work with parts/ego state therapy which I find very effective is similar, I would recommend Roy Hunters and Gordon Emmersons books on this for anyone interested in learning. I am located in Australia and he came out there a few years ago however I missed his workshop but later bought his book.
