How can you tell if someone can be hypnotised?

Some hypnotists can tell just by looking at people if they would be easily hypnotized.
What are the signs, how can you tell? What is the secret to being able to just pluck someone out of the crowd?

Hi Jill...

A lot of people when they are highly suggestable tend to start "trancing" out before the hypnotist even does anything. Especially if they have been hypnotized before and even more so if they enjoyed it. Once you have them looking at you if they know your the hypnotist you'll find thier eyes are starting to close a little, in anticipation of being hypnotized. See most anyone can be hypnotized provided they are willing. You can also tell how suggestable they are based on how well they respond to suggestions, try a small deminstration with them, my favorite is the magnetic fingers. Due to the fact that unless they are an uptight or unwilling participant it's a flawless exercise. See how fast thier fingers draw together. Here's a hint the fast they pull the more suggestable they are. Me after being hypnotized so many times once the hypnotist makes the suggestion, my fingers are together before they really even start.... When pulling someone out of a crowd the hypnotist watches when he does the suggestability testing to see who responds the best and quickest. Also somnambulistics ( who are highly suggestable people) will raise thier hands when the hypnotist asks who would like to come on stage. There will also be others, but if the hypnotist has done their homework on stage, they have already found those who responded the best.

My question is how they do it on the streets, to know out of some random people who is best suggestable.....

Good luck and hoped this helped

Speaking as one of the street guys:
On the streets, we don't know. There's no surefire way of spotting the small percentage who cannot be hypnotised.
But remember, we are asking people to participate. Those who can't be hypnotised are unlikely to consent, those who consent obviously WANT to be hypnotised.
Of the people who want to be hypnotised, there's an even smaller percentage who can't be, so we succeed most of the time!
Incidentally, in my experience, sonambulists will fall over themselves to be hypnotised, often pushing others out of the way. What luck!?
Some say those in designer labels/logos/tattoos etc. (fashion victims) must be more suggestible, but I don't have any statistics to back that up!

Let me give a smart-ass answer to your title question: If they are willing, they can be hypnotized.

Some have a lot of talent for entering trance, and others take more practice.

Thanks for the feedback! Very interesting.
When my instructor taught me hypnosis he said he could tell right away when he first meets someone.
If they were easier to take into a rapid induction or not........
However he was not interested in divulging that information to me...... That would be in a different class ;o) ( I can appreciate that from a business standpoint)

I love this forum and lots have been more than willing to help me out. I really appreciate it

Peace,
Jill

O to kill the noncommunicative "gurus". So irritating when someone withholds information.

My feeling is that as soon as someone closes their eyes and imagines something or does some kind of mental activity, they are in hypnosis. From there, you deepen. I think the 'problem' becomes how to get a client deep enough to believe that they are in hypnosis.

I know this is pretty controversial but I find that the deeper they go the better the suggestions seem to take on a consistent basis. I would think that if the suggestions are only vaguely remembered, there will be less interference from the 'doubting thomas' conscious mind.

Are they breathing? LOL
Actually, they might be already Hypnotized to some greater or lesser extent -- are they somewhat fixated - glassy eyed already? Are they eager, interested, relaxed, for me at this point it's more of a feeling rather than anything I could describe, I just know.

This has actually put my mind to rest because I was thinking I was missing something. Or rather I should be looking for something in a person...and I didn't know how to find it....(probably a little self doubt in here )

Peace,
Jill

I am with Suan and John on this. Everyone can be hypnotized, trance is natural phonomena and happens to each of us each day. The real issue is NOT, "can someone be hypnotized?" but rather, "How do I build enough trust and rapport that they will allow me to guide them through this natural process?"
