I've got a client coming in for help with erectile dysfunction. Any ideas on how to approach it with hypnosis?

Hi Melissa,

Thank you for adding the specifics here. It's really helpful to add to the general outline. I'm going to cut and paste it into my folder of good snippets of information. Thanks again,.

Thank you all for the professional way you handle this topic and medical condition.

Just a little stretch here, not to take it out of the “scope of practice” but in my limited experience I have trained a couple of clients in EFT to use shortly before engaging in sexual intercourse with good results. The script I like to provide addresses guanylate cyclase and cGMP levels and the roles of Nitric Oxide and phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) so some education is involved. (I’d like to know the benefits of addressing these in a trance state.) Often an EFT script of more course and direct verbiage to address the bigger, firmer and longer lasting is requested. One client also had a chronological, heat stroke induced, premature testosterone deficiency and EFT helped along with an herbal supplement (not beyond my personal scope :)

Thanks again for all the good information and advice,
JT

Thank you all for the very valuable information. I too am getting requests for this type of hypnotherapy and want to make sure I cover all bases. I already knew about needing referral, and I have already reviewed the information about it with HMI. As I will review it again, I want to thank everyone here for the book references and tips not to forget.

Sincerely,

Hi Roxann-

Always a good idea to confirm he has consulted a doctor - ED can be caused by injury or disease, the effects of medication and most cases are caused by anxiety.

FYI - I have helped many men overcome ED using a wide range of approaches.

With some clients it can be as simple as creating arm catalepsy and suggesting the obvious "If hypnosis can make your arm stiff imagine what it's going to do for your penis" Other's responded to metaphors relating to their personal history and direct experience -- "There was a time when your penis had a mind of it's own - it didn't require any help from you - all that was required was arousal.

You want to communicate that his penis knows how and what to do without any help from his conscious mind --Blah, blah blah..."

I recommend helping your client build a resource state in the privacy of his mind which is very easy to do -- Ask him connect to his sexiest memories and fantasies and anchor them --

Now you are able to tell the client that his memories and fantasies have their very own biochemistry and it is the chemistry of arousal -- For home work -- Have him to get in touch with his sexiest memories and fantasies several times a day over the next several days with the suggestion that he will be delighted and amazed about what pops up all by itself -- without even thinking about it...

Expect success!
