Hello, everyone -

Has anyone ever worked with this? I've been working with a lady who suffers from it. Unfortunately I haven't had much time yet to research it, but when I have looked, I haven't found much. I've already had several sessions with her for chronic neck pain, er, discomfort :-) I did age regression and parts therapy, and that issue is much more under control now, yahoo! I was hoping that the regression would also take care of the eye movement problem, but obviously, it hasn't. At this point I plan to start with another regression session, but would welcome any further suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Stephanie,

Are you talking about blepherospasm (spasms of the eyelids) and spasmodic torticollis (spasm around the neck area)? If you are, I had it. I can tell you what I know.

Thanks, Susan -

I think so. The lady says that the issues with her eyes are that she has trouble focusing and tracking - watching TV and reading a computer screen are two things that are especially hard for her. I would indeed appreciate anything you can tell me about what this feels like so that I can figure out how I'm going to approach this. Thanks again!

Hi back,

Doesn't she have a diagnosis? Blepherospasm means that the eyelids blink uncontrollably (which affects the vision from a functional standpoint). Spasmodic torticollis is a movement disorder also which can occur with blepherospasm.

Shouldn't you have a medical referral?

Hi, Susan -

I do have a medical referral, but it's from when I started working with her a few months ago for chronic pain, so that's what the referral is specifically for. But you're right, I should nail down exactly what her diagnosis is...thanks!

OK, an update - her diagnosis is "Convergence insufficiency with nerve damage to right eye." She has been undergoing vision therapy for it, but finds the therapy extremely painful. So I guess this is something different from what Susan was talking about...any ideas, anyone? Thanks!

I looked up the symptoms of convergence insufficiency and I think I could have that diagnosis most of the time. And, I just thought I was getting older. Here's the symptom list:eyestrain (especially with or after reading)
headaches
inability to concentrate
short attention span
frequent loss of place
squinting, rubbing, closing or covering an eye
blurred vision
sleepiness (especially while reading)
trouble remembering what was read
words move, jump, swim or appear to float on the page
problems with motion sickness and/or vertigo
double vision

I especially suffer from the blurred vision and double vision after too much Scotch. Funny but that also seems to be when the words swim across the page too. And, reading without falling asleep is a challenge any time.

Seriously, I think I would continue to help her work on the pain so she can do the exercises. I would also suggest to her UM that nervous tissue does regenerate and that the nerves in her eye can begin repairing themselves and can do so at a rapid rate. Even if the nerves have been cut they can find pathways back to connect with each other.

Thanks for looking that up, Melissa! I especially like the suggestion about the damaged nerve(s) regenerating - I'll certainly include that. I'm going to see her the day after tomorrow, so I'll let you all know how it goes...

How about updtaing us on your client with the eye movement disorder. What's happening with her?

Hi, Melissa!

And thanks so much for asking, i really appreciate that! As it turned out, she had scheduled to come in the last Thursday of August (forget what the date was), but she had to re-schedule, and i saw her last Thursday...the infamous 9/11...

which was REALLY interesting, because in a session last spring, she told me that most of her problems - her chronic neck pain, the eye movement problems, etc., had started just after (the original) 9/11. But anyhow, here's what went down...

first, because my primary training is from Jerry Kein, i of course regressed to cause. but she threw me for a curve this time, because when i'd regressed her before for the neck pain, she talked my ear off about what was going on...but this time, she didn't want to talk. so i did a content-free regression, with pretty much just yes and no questions - do you know what's going on; who's involved; is it frightening/painful etc. etc. to make a long story short, we cleared it, she gave forgiveness to the two people who had hurt her most in the situation, and then when i took her back to TRY to find the feeling again...she couldn't! woohoo!

then I taught her glove anesthesia, because she has exercises she's supposed to do to help the vision problem (just like Melissa had mentioned in her post), but she's never been able to do them because they're too painful. she LOVED the glove anesthesia. i told her to practice using it, and to use it to do her eye exercises, and if she can only do them for a very short time at first, like maybe 10 seconds at a time, that's fine - just keep doing whatever she can, gradually increasing as she feels able...i also gave her lots of suggestions about how the damaged nerve is repairing itself, especially as she does the exercises.

then i finished up with a short direct suggestion script, the "ego-strengthening script," i got when i did NGH Instructor training this past summer. i've been using that with all my clients since coming back from that training, and everyone seems to really like it - it's one of those that has a bit of something for everyone in it, and i'd be very happy to share if anyone wants it.

my client left the session feeling very charged up, loving the glove anesthesia, and chomping at the bit to start using it. i'll be seeing her again a week from Thursday (25 September), so i'll keep you posted on how things are going with her.

and thanks again, Melissa, for checking back! :)

Stephanie, if you would share the ego strengthening script on here I'm sure a lot of people would find it helpful with their clients. That's a very generous offer. Thank you.

Hi, Melissa!

I did a bit of double-checking, and unfortunately, the script is copyright. Drat!! But generally, it suggests that the client will feel stronger physically, mentally and emotionally; that life's little annoyances won't trouble him/her; that his/her outlook will be calmer, more positive, and that he/she won't dwell so much on him/herself, etc., etc. I'm so sorry I piqued your interest and then couldn't provide it! :-(
