I was talking to a gentleman today who told me that he would like me to help his girlfriend, but ever since her first hypnotic experience, she goes into a catatonic state whenever she is hypnotized. Her first experience was successful and a pleasurable experience for her, by all reports.
Without causing the same state, is there a way for me to get around it, or to find the cause of it? Could the first hypnotist have put some kind of trigger in her mind so that no one else could do as he did?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Sabastian,

what you just ascribed sounds like an abnormal condition often associated with schizophrenia, It is known to me as an disorder disturbance, It can be related to a major depression, bipolar disorder I and II, schizophrenia, In some cases catatonia may also be an extreme side effect of a medication.

I am not a doctor but I read allot and I happen to refer clients like that out, especially if they have this symptoms of bipolar and schizophrenia..
Sometimes I do work with bipolar but only If I am with a physician in the same room or the condition is not so serious...

I really think you should consult with her doctor, and decide what to do, because I can't tell you what to do...

Good Luck, Doreen

Sebastian:
By "catatonia", do you mean she automatically goes into the Esdaile state (hypnotic coma) when she is hypnotized? If that's what we're talking about, then yes, the first hypnotist COULD have installed a trigger to make this happen. This is a type of "Hypnotic Seal", and most reputable hypnosis organizations consider it unethical.

BUT... I very much doubt this is the case with your client. She's probably just a natural somnambulist.

Sean,

The "Hypnotic Seal" was my first thought as well. Is there a way around it? Or, a way to find out what it is and undo it?

Sabastian:
The regular induction seal is easily broken. I don't know how to break emergence seal. It would be a fun experiment though! Possibly the coma threat will work if she goes into Esdaile. This summer at NGH I saw a lecture on putting someone into Esdaile but leaving one arm in Somnambulism so that ideomotor responses could be used. Maybe somthing like that would work.

Hi Sebastian,

What exactly do you mean by "catatonic"? Is she just very, very deep? If she's having good results, why are you fearful of letting her go into whatever state works for her?

On the other hand, when a client goes so deep that he stops responding to my questions, I give the suggestion to come up to a lighter depth, one in which they CAN respond but deep enough to accept suggestions for change. I suggest that their SCM knows the perfect depth and that they can go to that level now.

Hope that helps,

Susan

Susan,

She only had good results with the first hypnotist. Since then, any other hypnotist that tries, she goes into this state which her boyfriend calls "catatonic". She hasn't responded to these other hypnotists, nor to the suggestions they give.

Hi Sebastian,

It seems that I misunderstood you, If it is only that she had a good results with the first hypnotist. and if you sure that any other hypnotist who tried couldn't get her back to that state, except her boyfriend who calls "catatonic".
Then my question is, is the BF still with her or he is out of the picture?

If he is, maybe he can give her the suggestion that from now on, when ever he says that, it's no longer have any meaning to her.. just an idea or you try that yourself...
I will really Di-hypnotize her and give her the suggestion that each and every time she hears the word "catatonic", it will no longer have an affect oh ner, do it few times, when you take her in an out ... then test it....

Or ask someone who knows a little better about fast induction, such as stage hypnotist...

That if it is the case... Good luck, Doreen
