I would like to get into stage hypnosis and would like to know what you recommend for training. I studied at Leidecker Institute for my hypnosis training but they don't offer anything in stage hypnosis.

I live in Indiana but luckily for me I can get to the Illinois border in about 15 mins.

Also - I do believe I've read somewhere that in Indiana you can put on stage hypnosis shows without having to worry about any of the strict state legalities.

Any information is helpful.

Thanks
Darlene

I have my 100 hours - I've been putting off joining the NGH because I feel there is so much more for me to learn.

I probably should join and quit putting it off.

Well lt is not just about Joining it is about having enough training to feel comfortable in a situation where you have not one person hypnotized but a whole group.....

Right and that's where I want to be. Confident and comfortable :)

Ok, I guess what I am saying is if you do not feel that you have your comfort level established yet and understand and are able to deal with Abreactions without issue... Then perhaps Stage training is not right for you yet...

However taking classes on stagecraft and becoming comfortable in a public speaking role Toastmasters is excellent are great first steps...

Unfortunately and if you read some of the other posts there are many schools who teach you how to be a stage hypnotist... in 3 days.... which is not enough time to learn all of the finer workings of the craft.

We are also here in the USA having a serious problem with possibly not being able to get insurance.. Due to the proliferation of three day master hypnotists...

Some of the best things you can do is to attend classes and conventions focus on classes that teach rapid inductions and any and all technical aspects of hypnosis...

Continue to build your hours and fill in the gaps that way when you do attend a Stage training program you will not be overwhelmed with the basics and can comprehend how a basic show is conducted and understand the safety issues so as not to be a danger to yourself or others....

Richard Nongard and John Cerbone (hypnosisgurus.com) are doing a weekend stage training in Vegas in June. That's a good place to start because it is all about speed trance and they both have extensive stage work under thier belts, The IMDHA has a convention in May (see the advertisments on the site) that has several seminars helpful to stage hypnosis training. Richard Rumble (on the site as well) periodicly does a seminar that is top notch for practical training. And of course the NGH will have some training in August. The resources are out there, That said... I agree with Justin, you should have a background in clinical work to be able to smoothly handle abreactions. Everyone I just mentioned as well as Justin has extensive clinical training. Enjoy

Darlene,

I feel being a member of the NGH would be very helpful to anyone who joins. If you would attend the the NGH convention you could experience the knowledge and friendship of over 2,500 hypnotists from thirty different countries. If you do attend the 2008 convention please introduce yourself to me. I am presenting one seminar and two workshops at the convention and I was also hired as the headliner comedy stage show.

Don Rice.

Here's the text of the Indiana statute regarding hypnosis. Stage hypnosis IS exempt, BUT you have to be careful what you say, even from the stage - which sucks.

------------
Indiana law regarding demonstrational hypnosis:

The section in the rules is 844 IAC 5-4 Sec4(e)
---
(e) A hypnotist or hypnotherapist shall not perform hypnosis in a group setting larger than three (3) people per session for the treatment of the following:

(1) Addictions.
(2) Pain and stress management.
(3) Phobias.
(4) Self-hypnosis.
(5) Sports enhancement.
(6) Test taking.
(7) Tobacco cessation.
(8) Weight loss.

This subsection does not apply to or include educational courses where hypnosis is not performed as it relates to tobacco cessation, weight loss, relaxation, test taking, medical conditions, sports enhancement, and self-hypnosis conducted by a hypnotist. (Medical Licensing Board of Indiana; 844 IAC 12-5-4; filed Jan 13, 2000, 9:50 a.m.: 23 IR 1383; filed Feb 3, 2005, 2:30 p.m.: 28 IR 1693)
---

This is a completely insane and, to be honest, unenforcible law. Here are some reasons WHY it is unenforcible - YouTube, which carries mini-lessons on hypnotic technique in to the state all the time; MySpaceTV, same reasons; GoogleVideo (are you seeing a pattern here?), not to mention that anyone can pull a Kreskin and do a program where one denies the existence OF hypnosis, yet do a whole program OF hypnotic events, including suggestions for self improvement that would violate this stupid law, without violating it, simply by not using the WORDS "hypnosis, hypnotism, trance," etc.!

But what can anyone expect of a state that tried to legislate the mathematical value of pi to be the number '3' anyway? The move failed, but only by a few votes in the legislature...

LOL I am in the central time zone - just outside of Chicago.

And yes, I'm starting to wonder why I moved back here as well - once my daughter is done with high school I think we'll move.

June 14, I will be teaching my 4-hour Stage Hypnosis Safety course in Rosemont (near O'Hare Airport), IL. Contact me, directly, if you are interested. Seating will be VERY limited.
