I have long since held the view that EFT is essentially combining hypnotic elements with energy work. It is undoubtedly true in my view that we can alter the body's electrical and magnetic fields to change body chemistry - which is my "scientific" definition of energy work. But EFT seems to also combine phrases that you say, "Even though I have this X, I deeply and completely accept myself" and so forth... Also the manner and the presuppositions which are given with EFT lead me to believe that there is more than just energy work taking place.
Of course the smart hypnotist says, I'm going to use EFT, but I'm going to load it with suggestions in waking hypnosis so they get the better change. I've done this in the past with clients - you would be surprised that almost every other thing that I say is a suggestion.
To get started with hypnosis - there are many people teaching great things. I'd say it depends on your goals. Lots of people have had success with Jerry Kein's courses for clinical work, or Geoff Ronning's stuff for stage hypnosis, or Igor Ledochowski's material for covert hypnosis, and Richard Nongard and John Cerbone also have some great stuff... I'd say that's a good place to start :)
Have fun,
Taylor
