About Me:: I have just relocated from northwest Alaska to Alabama. I have a medical background as a flight paramedic and am just a bit shy of my RN. I had a part-time practice in Alaska and am working now to get my full-time practice up and running!

I am a wife and mother of two young men. I live with three huge, crazy dogs...AND a brand new puppy!

Hobbies:: Photography, All Things Outdoorsey...Hiking, Biking, Camping, Fishing...

About a month ago I got up one morning and he couldn't stand. I called my daughter at the clinic and I was crying so hard all I could get out was, Lobo, legs, stand (literally) she says, mom bring him in now. So I carried him out to the car which in itself was hard on me as I had just past that 6 week mark after a full hysterectomy due to cancer. But anyway not the point other then emotionally I was distraught and physically I wasn't too good. All the way there I was crying my eyes out as I was sure this was the time.

We got there and my daughter came out and carried him in for me. The vet came in and took a look at him and said that he didn't look good but it was up to us as he wasn't in pain but yes his back legs were gone. I looked at my daughter and asked her what she thought. She asked the vet about perhaps giving him a steroid shot as last time he had that for his allergies it seemed to perk him up. The vet said it might help so we decided to go that direction.

That was 2 months ago and he is now just starting to get weak legs again. Between now and then it has been like he was a puppy again. With these shots you can get them every 2 or 3 mths. They aren't a cure for old age but they sure helped our dog, maybe they might help yours.

At 7:25am on November 11, 2008, Bonnie Robinson said…: We don't normally foster dogs persay as to be honest our middle dog who is a 3 year old female isn't really that receptive to other dogs but this dog wandered in off the desert one night up to my daughter's boyfriend. He was just skin and bones. My daughter works at a vet clinic and so she took him in to see if there was anything medically wrong with him and it turned out he had parvo. It was hard to tell his age because he was so malnutritioned but they guessed at about 9 mths or so. My daughter and her boyfriend kept him for 2 mths and got him well but because they share a house with roomates who have 3 dogs, 6 cats are watching someone elses dog and have been for 6 mths and my daughter has a dog and cat, this poor little bugger who they named Chance wasn't getting much food as he wasn't very aggressive and was being picked on. So finally my daughter said, mom I'm gonna have to take him to the shelter as it's not fair on him. I said bring him over ours and see how he gets along with Lilly. Oddly Lilly took to him almost immediately and so now we have Chance although the condition was that once my daughter and her boyfriend get a house they will have him back. Reality is that it's hard enough to get a house where the landlord allows one small dog and cat which they already have without adding another dog. Chance is part coyote and we thought part german sheppard but we aren't sure about the latter part anymore. Plus we have gotten very attached to this mutt (smile)
